My name is Raquel Hürter, and I would like to share a bit about my life and my journey.

I was born in the Dominican Republic and adopted at the age of 4, which brought me to Germany. Growing up in Germany, I completed my education and trained as a confectioner and cook. Additionally, I pursued studies in nutrition and medicine.

At the age of 11, I became passionate about fashion, sewing, jewelry making, painting, and various forms of handicrafts and upcycling.

My dream has always been to return to my home country and create a social initiative for children and mothers, utilizing everything I have learned and studied over the years.

As a child and during my youth, I experienced domestic violence and lived in a youth home. Despite the trauma, my faith in God provided me with strength. I refused to be a victim; I am a survivor. Today, I can share my testimony and offer hope to other children, adolescents, and women. Domestic violence is a pressing issue in my home country, often considered a taboo topic, with victims frequently ignored.
There is a significant need for support and education regarding this issue.

I am grateful for the opportunity God has given me to come to Germany, where I gained valuable experiences. I believe that programs for mothers and children are essential, and I hope to see similar support in my home country. Many children in the Dominican Republic lack access to basic education, health services, and social interaction.

Two years ago, I returned to the Dominican Republic with my three children. After over 30 years in Germany, I faced a significant culture shock. We navigated many ups and downs, and there were moments when I almost abandoned my mission. However, my faith led me back to my purpose: helping my country. I aspire to provide facilities, programs, donations, hope, education, joy, and a positive outlook for the future.
I engage in various activities with my children, including handicrafts and home education.

It is my heartfelt mission to assist children, young people, and single mothers by creating a nurturing environment for positive experiences. I want them to remain strong in their faith and to use the gifts that God has given them for good.

Every little effort we make together through your donations can help us grow into something significant.

My Slogan: Every Mustard Seed Counts!

About my organization, “Children from the Mustard Seed”:

My foundation is dedicated to the memory of my late son and all children who, like mustard seeds, deserve the opportunity to flourish. Our goal is to establish a youth center in San Cristobal, which will include a café and sports facilities.
First Project: Youth Café

- Concept Development: We will create a welcoming space where young people can gather, socialize, and feel safe.
- Renovation: We will renovate a suitable location, ensuring it is accessible and inviting.
- Menu Planning: Collaborating with nutritionists, we will develop a menu that offers healthy and affordable meals, incorporating local ingredients.
- Workshops: We will host cooking and baking workshops for youth, teaching them culinary skills and the importance of nutrition.
- Cultural Events: The café will serve as a venue for cultural events, such as music nights, art exhibitions, and open mic sessions to showcase local talent.

Future Projects:

1. Youth Center:
- Site Selection: Identify a central location that is easily accessible for children and families.
- Facility Design: Work with architects to create a multifunctional space that includes classrooms, recreational areas, and offices.

- Construction: Secure funding and gather volunteers for the construction phase, focusing on creating a safe and enjoyable space for play.
- Coaching Programs: Recruit experienced coaches to run basketball clinics and promote teamwork and discipline.

3. Playground:
- Design and Safety: Create a safe and engaging playground that encourages physical activity and social interaction among children.
- Installation: Work with local contractors to ensure the playground is built to safety standards.
- Community Days: Organize events to encourage families to visit the playground and build community ties.

4. Greenhouse for Self-Sufficiency:
- Location and Design: Identify a suitable area for the greenhouse and plan its layout for optimal growth.
- Planting Workshops: Conduct workshops to teach community members about sustainable farming practices and the benefits of growing their own food.
- Harvest Events: Organize seasonal events where families can participate in harvesting and enjoy fresh produce.

Together, we can make a difference!
